LAGOS -- Nigerian industries that rely on heavy duty diesel generators (200kva and above) are set to reap significant cost reduction in their diesel consumption cost. This as a result of the introduction of a new product, GTI Bi-Fuel System, by Excel Energy Services Ltd, the sole agents.

The technology designed by Altronic Inc, a United States company engaged in the gas ignition market, allows the substitution of up to 70 per cent of diesel fuel by natural gas in the operation of the diesel generators without carrying out any conversion on the diesel engine.

According to Mr. Bolaji Ososami, chief executive officer of Excel Energy Services, some of the industries where GTI Bi-fuel have been installed, have recorded as much as a 50 per cent reduction in the overall fuel cost of their diesel generators. He added that given the present cost of diesel, the payback period for the GTI Bi-Fuel System is, in most cases, less than six months.

The company disclosed that GTI Bi-Fuel system would also increase the life span of diesel engines because it burns cleaner fuel with low sulphur content resulting in a less polluted environment.

Diesel engines installed with GTI Bi-Fuel system exhibit diesel-like performance especially in such critical areas of efficiency, stability and load acceptance, Ososami said.

The GTI Bi-Fuel system has been installed successfully by some well-established industries in Lagos and Port Harcourt. Such Industries include Michelin, First Aluminium, Leventis Power, among others. For these users, Ososami said the system has delivered consistently on expected savings in fuel cost.

Excel Energy Services Limited provides operations and maintenance services to Nigerian oil & gas, and industrial sectors.
